Dr. Adem Akinci gave a seminar on how to get along with your children aging from 0 to adolescent. He spoke to large members of the Turkish-American community on September 23rd. He gave advices on how to discipline children, same time earn their trust and love.
Some of the bullet points from his speech may be summarized as follows; Discipline starts from childhood. Discipline should not be forced on kids by means of birching, whipping or spanking
Too much caring is as bad as too pressure on kids. Too much compassion is an hurdle on the road of training kids religious duties.

Children are parent’s mirrors. When there is a problem between parents, it should be kept away from children. Best way to teach respect to children is through living it. Parents must be in harmony when dealing with their children. Parents should never try to become friends with their children, whereas father should play father role and mother should play mother role.
