TCCNJ Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Day

It was a night of honoring teachers, appreciating the important work they do for our children and for society. The New Jersey Cultural Center in Clifton, NJ organized Teacher Appreciation day to show its respects and appreciation for the teachers in and around North Bergen Passaic County. The program included live music played by Amir Vahap and his band.  He played very nice Turkish music one of which was the Oud; a Turkish plucked string instrument resembling a lute, followed by Ney; a carved wooden flute like instrument. While listening to this softly played music, guests enjoyed delicious Turkish food and deserts followed by Turkish Coffee. Teachers were handed gifts and were asked to speak a little of their work in the education field and what teaching means to them. During the event, quotes about the importance of teaching were read to the guests. Principle of Pioneer Academy Sukan Alkin presented a speech emphasizing the important role a teacher plays in a student’s life. Mr. Alkin presented educational quotes and animations of ways teachers help and shape a child’s understanding of education. Professor Josephine Hernandez from Passaic Community College also shared her thoughts of how important teaching is. Teachers and guests left the event mentioning they not only enjoyed the wide array of Turkish food but also enjoyed the soothing music played by Amir Vahap’s band.  Some said that the music was not only peaceful but also relaxing to the soul.
