Day of Service and Remembrance

The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance volunteer project will be held on Saturday, September 8th, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at three different locations in Jersey City: Dickinson High School, Liberty State Park, and Empty Sky Memorial in Liberty State Park.

Individuals ages 4 and up are welcome to volunteer. Please note that when you arrive at the project, painting projects are reserved for volunteers ages 14 and up only. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a youth waiver signed by their parent or guardian to participate.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you feel comfortable getting dirty.

Parking is available in the school parking lot.

All projects will be held rain or shine. Please check the Jersey Cares website in the event of inclement weather.

Food and water may not be provided by the site, so please bring what you will need for 2-3 hours.

Projects may include:

  • Brightening school walls with inspirational murals
  • Landscaping and trash pickup
  • Revitalization of the school’s 9/11 Memorial
  • Touching up school entrances with a fresh coat of paint
  • Family-friendly indoor kit assembly projects to be donated to the school and nonprofit partners

Liberty State Park – Landscaping

Individuals ages 14 and up are welcome to volunteer. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate and will be asked to have a youth waiver signed by their parent or guardian.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you feel comfortable getting dirty.

Parking is available near the project location and details will be emailed to volunteers the day before.

This is a labor-intensive project including weeding, mulching, clean-up, removing invasive botanical species and planting.

Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial 5K and Remembrance Walk

Individuals ages 12 and up are welcome to volunteer. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate and will be asked to have a youth waiver signed by their parent or guardian.

This project will run from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you feel comfortable walking the race course in.

The project is located in Liberty State Park at the Empty Sky Memorial. Parking is available at the project location: 1 Audrey Zapp Drive, Jersey City, NJ.

All projects will be held rain or shine. Ample covered space is available in case of inclement weather.

Projects will include:

  • Helping with event and racecourse set-up
  • Assisting staff with racer registration/packet pick-up
  • Working water stations along the race course
  • Helping to clean up grounds before and after the event

Must be able to have fun and cheer on/encourage racers and walkers. Help us to celebrate the lives and memories of the 749 victims from New Jersey by coming out and serving with your community.
